Both are really great, but certain scenes in Modern Times makes it for me.

Modern Times wins. I liked The Gold Rush but in my opinion, Modern Times is Chaplin's best. Of what I've seen anyway.
MT is my favorite Chaplin.

the best of Chaplin's silent films in terms of production length and story but Modern Times makes me laugh more!

Both great but for me Gold Rush is more of a complete movie.

These are my two favorite Chaplins. Modern Times wins, but both are hysterical and smart silent comedies.

This is a hard one for me. The Gold Rush I feel has an epicness to it and I am sucker for those.
