Despite amazing and epic scenes and great character development early on, I still can't call Red River a good western because of its terribly foolish upsetting ending.

I know there are those out there that will find this blasphemy to say, but I have never liked John Wayne and have always thought that even for his time he is a terrible actor. I usually try to avoid his movies, and would have also avoided Red River but I saw it got a criterion release and could not stop myself.

There's a lot of good stuff in this one including the cast, but it's too long and drags in places. And like others have said, the ending isn't very good.

Come on, that ending was great. I could've done without the woman jabbering about this and that, but everything else about it was excellent.

The acting is atrocious, and that's even by John Wayne standards, which are already terrible. I rather like the pacing and cinematography but wish there was a different cast. Feels like a remake could do it a lot of good, but what 2020 audience wants to watch a 2:15 cattle drive epic?
